    QEP Tip of the Week


    • The Georgene Irene Bias Opening Reception

      Join us for the opening reception for The Georgene Irene Bias Collection on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Center for Learning Resources on the 2nd floor. Light refreshments will be served.

      The Dr. Georgene Irene Bias collection supports research, study, and teaching of various aspects of the Black diaspora and Black studies in the humanities, social sciences, and other disciplines. In 1959, she launched her illustrious career as a librarian at St. Philip’s College, attaining the Professor and Head Librarian rank. She received the title of Professor Emeritus in recognition of her long and distinguished service.

    • Show off your bowling skills for a great cause! Join us for our SPC Scholarship Bowling Tournament in February. The tournament is open to all students, faculty, staff, and the general public. The entry fee is $5 per person and $25 per team. Learn More.

    • Get Published! Be an Editor! Join the Tiger PAWS Editorial Staff, the deadline is February 23, and the submission deadline is March 2. Scholarship money available for Editors up to $1000! Submit your writing or artwork to Tiger PAWS, a literary art journal of SPC students’ work. Categories include: Poetry, Short Stories, Nonfiction, Literary Analysis, Photography, Fine Art, and Digital Art. Learn More

    • The SPC Advocacy Center has support measures and counseling services in place for students. The SPC Advocacy Center and Counseling Services are located at our new Center for Advocacy and Student Empowerment (CASE) Building at the MLK Campus.

    • The Alamo Colleges District is now partnered with TimelyCare to deliver a new virtual health and well-being platform for students. Through either a mobile app or your desktop, TimelyCare provides 24/7 access to virtual care from anywhere in the United States at no cost. Whether you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, you can talk to a licensed provider to get the care you need via phone or secure video visits.

    • Walk Across Texas 18 – St. Philip’s College 17th bi-annual St. Philip’s Walk Across Texas begins on Feb. 24

      Walk Across Texas is a friendly competition; the main goal is to promote health and wellness. It is based on the honor system, with you reporting/recording your mileage to your captain or directly using the Google Doc link that will be provided to all participants.

      - Have appropriate active wear and activity shoes (No jeans, cargo pants, crocs, or slides in the weight or cardio rooms).

      Be aware: No lifeguard is on Duty in the Pool, appropriate swimwear or swim clothing is required, and no towels are provided. Open recreational hours are subject to change on a semester-to-semester basis depending on the scheduled classes offered and events hosted in the building.

In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that St. Philip’s College shares the news of the passing of Mrs. Frances Pearline Williams, the beloved mother of our esteemed President, Dr. Adena Williams Loston. Mrs. Williams passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness that touched all who knew her. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Loston and her family during this difficult time. We stand with them in their grief and offer our support as they navigate this profound loss. We encourage our community to keep Dr. Loston in your thoughts and prayers.
